Here's some pics of rhodonite I just finished up. I hope these pics come in half-decent, because I've been having a HUGE!! amount of trouble trying to load and preview these pics. I think I got it to work now. Recipe was: 60/90, about 3 weeks 120/220, 7 days 500, 7 days Tripoli, 7 days CPP polish, 8 days

That stuff really turned out nice, what a gorgeous shine. Love those black lines, almost like a spider web. Great job!

What a great looking stone, don't think I've seen it before either. And you da man when it comes to shine. Would you mind saying about how much a lb. that goes for? I could make purple "Red Hat Ladies" jewlery out of that and it would sell all over town. Great job,

Thanks for all the kind words everyone! Csroc, I got this stuff almost a year ago from Green's Lapidary, in Calgary. I think it is British Columbia rhodonite. It came as one big chunk, which I then busted up... would have been easy with a saw (which I don't have), but it was very tough with a hammer and chisel as there didn't seem to be any fracture planes at all. Succeeded in the end obviously. I've seen it for sale from other sites on the Internet as well. And as Earthdog mentions, you can find it on ebay too. Cookie, I think I paid Cdn $6 per pound. Earthdog, since rhodonite is only Mohs 6, you are right to worry about mixing it with other material. In my case, I mixed it up with just about everything in 60/90, then after that I kept all the quartz-type materials away and tumbled it with only Mohs 6 or softer materials for all the other stages. Thanks again everyone for the compliments. Rhodonite is a very pretty material and I've always wanted to tumble some.... now I have! And Debs, that's "Atta boy!" Don

Nice pink rhodonite. Did you find it at limekin in the big sur california area ? I scuba dive a few miles away from there and i heard its only one of a few places you can find it. A friend of mine found some one time and tried to grind it on a belt sander, it was so hard sparks were flying while grinding.

Beautiful stones. Thanks for the pictures and the "recipe". I have some rhodonite from the Silverton, CO area. It doesn't have as much black veining as your stones, but still makes nice jewelry. Last time we were up there, I picked up the smaller pieces specifically to tumble (and I was wondering if they would be a good stone for that purpose), but haven't gotten to that project yet. You've inspired me...I'll have to do some of that next. Nugget
