Wonderful work! How do you intend to use them? Embossing paper or Or print-making? The only etching that I ever did was in high school for making inked prints.

Mel, thanks for posting this! Very interesting to see the new techniques your using. Do you use the salt/distilled water for both the copper and steel etching?
I love the butterfly and cactus ones! How do you create the designs you want to etch?

Very impressive. Would you mind sharing a few details of your process? Maybe a tutorial?

For some who are scratching their heads the plates are 1/4” to 3/8” thick steel. I etch them to imprint the design onto Silver-Copper-etc whatever the base metal I’m working with at the time. I was lucky because to use the heat transfer vinyl you’ll need to be able to work some sort of computer graphic program. I use Make The Cut. It’s old and not able to be updated. PLEASE DONT CRASH! You also need a vinyl cutter. I have a KNK Zing Air. There are some learning curves on both! I love designing. I’m going to give a quick summary for the rest. ok this is getting to long Go check this out. This is the handout my teacher gave us and has it for free on his website for all to use bijoux-de-terre.com/jewelry/Handout%20-%20Electro-Etching%20Workshop.pdf

Same solution for everything except Silver and gold. I don’t work in gold much. I’m working on the Silver solution right now. I find graphics on the internet. I can put several different graphics together in my program. Or freehand draw too.

Nice work Mel, my only attempts were of the epic failure ones. I took a week long class and I’m still tweaking. I GET IT!! The process is a little long so it’s easier for everyone to read the print out and let me answer questions when they arise 😂

That is a really good handout!!!!!!!!!! Didn't read the whole thing yet but it seems to answer all my questions and then some. All kinds of possibilities.

melhill1659 thanks for the answers and a big thank you for the workshop handout! I'll be reading it through in the near future.
This has been something I've been interested in but have never pursued.
