So I got a new to me Rock Rascal Model J body from RickB a few weeks ago. My parts order finally arrived, with a new motor, cord, 6” blade, motor pulley, belt guard and splash guard. I stopped at tractor supply today, and got a 15” belt, cut a board to fit, and we are off to the races. The little saw zipped through some test agate tonight. I’ll do some fine tuning this weekend, and get it all bolted down. Happy to be in the trim sawing business!

Wow, didn't take you long to get that trim saw going. Did you strip and repaint it?

No rock is safe when a new saw arrives in the shop.

YAY! I have one too. Works a charm. How much water do you put in the reservoir?

Glad to hear you found a trim saw.
Now you can start looking for a place with more shop space. The first one always makes larger ones want to move in... .

I have plenty of space. Just need more equipment. Oh, and more time!

We also have a saw like that.
I marked a small plastic bottle to get the same amount of water each time. Add more if cutting for a while to compensate for spray and water on the table.
You might want to put a threaded barb fitting into that little drain hole. Maybe even add a spacer block under each corner of the saw to raise the bottom of the saw up above the board it's mounted on. I made a helluva mess first time I drained ours, then added a barb with a valve in the drain hose.

Already made the mess yesterday. I'm looking for a fitting for the drain plug today.

You don't want anything that will reduce the size of the drain hole. Stuff (sludge, chips, etc) already tends to slow the draining process. I bent a small metal trough to route the liquid away from the saw base and toward a free fall to the catch bucket. Good management of coolant level reduces splash mess. Add coolant with saw running until the blade tends to throw a visible line of coolant on the saw table, but not significantly up on the shield. If you measured the amount it took to achieve that performance you could just add that amount every time the saw was filled.

Peruano @hummingbirdstones2 & Tela, it seems to be about 3/4 cup, to start. Soda crate is just for height while I use it on the edge of the deck. I did add a drain line, we will see how that goes.
