Britney and I went for a walk in the field next to our house. About 40 yards from our house we found a hillside covered in rocks. We found one carnelian, a few jasper/hematite agates and this rock. same rock as found and cut apart. what is it??

Wow, that is a beautiful rock! It's just been sitting 40 yards away from you all this time just waiting for you to find it! I imagine there are many more gems over there? Have you looked there before? Now I want to drive up and walk through your field this weekend.

We’ve been taking a lot of walks out along the creek and yesterday stumbled upon this patch.

Beautiful! From what I can see, looks like a moss agate (there is some in WI), and primo coloring at that.

It looked like moss to me as well, I didn’t realize we had it here.

That is going to make some great cabs. Wisconsin fields hold some great treasurers.

Wow, you really lucked out! In the field right next to your house? Man, if I found material like that out my side door, then I'd be out their all night with a shovel and lantern trying to find more in my spare time. Take a break, walk 40 feet to get some food and drink. And then walk right back out there and keep going. The field would probably resemble a rock quarry when I finished.

We’ve been taking a lot of walks out along the creek and yesterday stumbled upon this patch. Well if it’s covered with crops why aren’t you out there looking before it gets planted. They are doing the digging (turning over the ground) for you after a good snow from the winter will lightly clean the stones for you making them easier to find a light rain with do the same then Mother Nature all ways lends a hand by putting frost in the ground pushing up new ones every year. You have others just waiting out there for the kids to find (you have helpers) FIELD-TRIP invest in a black light then go out at night to. Just saying RECESS
