The 80 grit Diamond Wheel ( 8 X 1.5) I use for grinding my pre-forms is nearing the end of it's life and will need to be re-placed soon. The wheel is also used for beveling the edges of rocks to be Vib Lapped and to grind any nibs or rough edges on big slabs before tumbling. The wheel I am using now is a Kingsley North Texture-X. It seemed to grind very well, but lately it's grinding slower and slower even after dressing it.
I am inclined to order the same Wheel again on Monday. Any suggestions for a replacement wheel?. Have considered one of the Sintered Wheels
Thanks Henry

If you can afford it go the sintered. A quarter of an inch thickness of diamonds just work better for much much longer.

If you decide to get a sintered wheel you will need to get a 60 grit to cut as quickly as a plated 80 grit.

Kingsley North has a sale on sintered wheels. Get one & you will probably never have to buy another of that grit again. Get it one grit coarser than you are used to with plated wheels. I got 60 grit instead of 80. If you're used to 100 grit, get 80. Edit: I see that they don't have 60 grit. kingsleynorth.com/heirloom-sintered-diamond-wheels.htmlLynn

Not sure I like my choices. The Sintered Wheels sound good for long life, but a 80 sintered does not grind as well as a plated 80. That means I will have a longer life of a wheel that does not grind as well as what I am used to.
I been hesitant to use a 60 grit wheel as the may create scratches that may not smooth out in the tumbler as quickly. Will call Kingsley to see if they have the 60 Sintered as it's not listed on their site.
May have to flip a coin for the decision.

Sintered wheels are a bit heavier as well. The ones I looked at some time ago, anyway, if that makes any difference on the equipment you use.

Called Kingsley this morning. They do not have a 60 grit Sintered Wheel so I bought the same wheel I have now, their Texture-X. Hopefully it lasts for a year or so.
One change I will make will be to move the current, near end of life, wheel to the other side of the Arbor and reserve it for beveling the edges of rocks for the Vib Lap. That reserves the new wheel for Pre-forms. That should help make it last a bit longer. We shall see.
Thanks for all the input. Hopefully I have a year or so to look into this further. Thanks for all the input.

Good plan. Your old one should still come in handy for working soft or chippy material.

I will be needing an 80 soon, too. I'm gonna pull the trigger on a sintered 60.

After thinking about it some more... I think I will get another wheel adapter to use my worn wheels for soft stones. I have worn 80, 220 hard and soft. They still have life, but are best suited to softer stones. So, my go to would be the 60 sintered with new 220 hard and soft. I could whip out agates like they were going out of style. Which they aren't, of course. I would hate to use a 60 sintered on ruby in fuschite, for example. Experience tells me those scratches wouldn't come out of ruby.

Maybe your eyes are better than mine, but I have a hard time seeing the girdle line when I grind on the right side using my aggressive wheel on the adaptor. I leave some room and use my worn wheels on the left to finish the job.
