Have not been on RTH for quite a while, this is some recent'ish work. My available carving time is very sporadic, more time than usual to play with rocks thanks to Corona lockdowns, though I don't have access to the large gear at my club. First up a wave form in Wyoming nephrite jade, nice to carve, absolute horror to polish, finished to a matt 800 grit, as any higher at it looked like shit. ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587267543/uie9cuyguaxksfusi6f4.jpg) ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587267543/chqpvxqdd4ipr3dsbjkw.jpg) Southern eagle ray in nephrite jade from Tamworth, Australia, with sterling silver tail and garnet bead ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587267544/lugvw841fus5dw5uycvj.jpg) ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587267847/lwyqsatttasgktnetnqv.jpg) Manta ray in nephrite jade from Tamworth, Australia, with sterling silver tai. This was the first ray I did, I like the idea of the metal tails as they are thinner than doing a stone one, however I was concerned about having a sharp point on the pendant, so so for this one I curled the tail with a beading tool, the eagle ray I put a garnet bead on the end. ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587267544/tyck2kcl2g3vpdj3xu3q.jpg) ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587267544/ptbo2urt8e7bythdmfh5.jpg) This is beautiful BC nephrite jade, inspired by a trip to Puget Sound, this is a jade version of a Salish Indian halibut hook, traditionally these were made of wood and bone. ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587268135/ovr4dej4kw6fmfcuul3s.jpg) A couple of whale tails as gifts for 21st's ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587268139/bbarrjtymcjrs1mucfyl.jpg) ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587268137/ak5mtfbrxgdastkgijkp.jpg) A few fish hooks in traditional pacific islander style, mixture of BC, NZ and Aus jades. ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587268142/ec0zlzizd9w4xere2w73.jpg) ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587268139/hbpgq72bsjlrrhydyhuo.jpg) ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587268137/jh9betyc9qxfuekdh0fq.jpg) And finally a knife with rhodonite from Tamworth, Australia. I did it for the property owner who kindly gave us access to the deposit. ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587268141/xelua5loxxkxihsjlugk.jpg) David

A few more ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587268824/rew9oyf3rotm8vxz8lrm.jpg) Another carving from the Wyoming nephrite, another nightmare to finish, ended up high polish on the tendril and matt for the rest. My family unkindly call this 'the sperm' ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/dxladlybc/image/upload/v1587268886/gs6yptjhe0bejpkoxa9x.jpg)

southerly those are all gorgeous! Love the hooks and the whale tails and that ray is adorable! I like the sperm, too -- it reminds me of when a bean is first sprouting and starting to grow. The knife is lovely. A very nice gesture to say thank you for a kindness.

Very nice. My mind wandered a little as I pictured that second ray with a treble fishing hook on the end.

Excellent work! Even though you're unhappy with the polish I think they look fantastic!

Holy Smokes!!! These are so amazing. I love the rays and I can't even imagine the time it took for these.. Very well done! (Also I would like to take some inspiration from the rays as I think they would be an awesome thing for me to attempt to carve. even if I am a newbie at carving)
