These pieces are from an Arizona estate. Material is hard, at least a Moh's 6. What do you guys think? I'd say Gem Silica, but not sure whether you can pin down which mine(s). Several around Arizona, though.

I'm thinking Andean blue opal, too.

Looks like Andean blue to me, too. If you do a streak test, the opal will be white (clear) and gem silica will be greenish colored.

rockpickerforever thank you! @rocks2dust, wpotterw, rockjunquie, and hummingbirdstones thank you for the identification. Neither chrysoprase or gem silica seemed right and I hadn't heard of Andean blue opal, although we did recognize the opalization. Streak test confirms opal. Thanks!!

You're welcome, taylor. That opal sounds like a good ID, I would have gotten it wrong.

The giveaway was the matrix. It kinda reminds me of BC ocean stone.

But, out of curiosity I did a scratch test on some self-collected Gem Silica and it scratched white or clear, could not tell on the white ceramic.

I had a piece I thought was opal or gem silica. Did the SG test (they're both in the same range - duh) and finally did the streak test. Had to look up the colors for the streak test. Mine was green (actually greeny-blue).

"Gem Silica" covers a lot of material. Any color in a streak is going to depend on the degree of silicification. I could see getting some blue off the less translucent areas of some of the softer types with recognizable chrysocolla streaking. In others, the amount of chrysocolla isn't enough to give a blue-green streak, and for some of the harder stuff, you'd need a streak plate (my porcelain tank lid is more likely to get scratched by that - I've tried - than rub off any of the stone).
