I am about to best my head bloody against a brick wall in my quest for clear caps for doublets and triplets. Can anyone help? I dont care if it's optical quartz or syntheic quarts.

Here's an Amazon option for 5 each 30x30x1 mm sheets at $14.51 with free shipping:
It looks like it's similar to the quartz sheet offerings on eBay from China.
Another option, not a great one, might be a lot of vintage sapphire watch crystals from eBay.
(I make opal doublets but I never cap them.)

I'll also mention that you can get optical-grade sapphire lens blanks at reasonable prices, if you need something more scratch-resistant than quartz.
