I procured a small piece of Hemimorphite and it is beautiful. It’s Robins egg blue. It could stay a specimen or get cut into pretty shapes.
Any tips on Hemimorphite? Thx.

If it were me, that would go in the "too pretty to cut" drawer. I have never cabbed it so can't help on that end. It's kind of hard to come by.

I would be keeping it as a specimen, it is really going to make your display pop. It looks to me like it is a crust on the rock, so trying to cut it you might get something or you might ruin the entire thing. Stick with the specimen.

If you were after cutting it, could possibly cut it to a shape fitting to the rock to allow the shape to display the natural beauty of it, not a true cab. Basically outside/shape polished or smoothed with the main part natural.

I've seen a few pieces that folks have cut for specimen cabochons, but IMO it is too soft (Mohs 4.5) and brittle to use in jewelry. Gorgeous color, and sometimes get a nice silky pattern from the acicular needle sprays.

Don't cut it - until you get a better one... .
Then have fun with shaping it and polishing the natural surface contours as suggested by rockstock.

I paid $37 + buyer fees. It is really brilliant blue. Probably way overpaid but not to me, I like it.

That’s a good price you paid for good material. I’ve seen facet grade hemimorphite before and it was hemi-morphite coloured quartz. Cheaper hemi seems to come out of China. I’d be keeping this as a specimen.

Yup I agree to keep it as a specimen. You may never see another piece as nicely colored as that one
I also agree that it could be just a thin coating judging from your picture I can see a dividing line between a lighter clearer color that runs into the darker blue

I find a lot of joy in finding new rocks. You can only look at a rock so many times and “see” it. Anyway I brought this to our local shop, to possibly assess and consign. The owner really liked it, so much that she purchased it for her personal collection and posted her daily tarot card on FB with it. She is better at photography than I am.
