Okay! I have been tempted into this Large Rock tumble adventure and I bought a QT-12 so I can join in on the fun
I spent quite alot of time trying to figure out which piece I was going to start off with and I finally chose this piece of Imperial Jasper. It was the "smoothest" overall to start - no jaged pieces jutting out that I'd have to chip off. There are some deep crevices, but I'm not opposed to leaving some as features. And I thought the exterior patterning was quite nice.
So here's where I started: 894 grams & 6" x 4"
I put this in the QT-12 with all of the jasper leftovers I've collected from previous batches of rough and used 12 ounces of 60/90 grit. When I checked the barrel two days later, all of the grit had been used up and there was, of course, more room in the barrel to fill up. I didn't have any more jasper and didn't want to use that much ceramic media, so I went to the local landscaping store and bought several bags of "River Pebble." I'll be using that as filler.
After the first week!!
I forgot to weigh it, but it doesn't look like it lost much volume. The rough grey patches have been smoothed down and the lovely color patterning is starting to emerge.
I'm enjoying the project so far, but wow is this a "grit eater"! The second week finishes in 2 days, so I'll weigh it again then.

I watched the video as well. Very pretty and interesting information on the tumbling process. I have learned a lot from Shannon's videos.
