Ok as we all know I don't have great picture taking skills, these are really shiney more than the hematite! I just wish you could see how pretty they are. The fractures are smooth and cant be felt in the hessonite. The large pieces are Hessonite garnet, the big square piece I will attempt to wrap lol, we'll see Anyway here's the recipe: 3 weeks course recharge weekley load with as many pellets as you can fit in there safely wash garnets between courses with ivory soap flakes and water 1 hour with pellets! 2 weeks medium load with pellets as many as you can fit in there safely wash garnets between courses with ivory soap flakes and water 1 hour with pellets!1 week Pre-polish load with pellets as many as you can fit in there safely wash garnets between courses with ivory soap flakes and water 1 hour with pellets!1-2 weeks in polish load with pellets as many as you can fit in there safely wash garnets between courses with ivory soap flakes and water 1 hour with pellets!Remove from barrel, droolRemember to change your pellets with each course to the correct grit type so you don't contaminate the batch. I used so many pellets for two reasons 1 being the little round garnets were very fragile because some had layers to them that would "split pea" 2 it was a very small batch and I didnt want to mix them with anything else. Hope you all enjoy them, well what you can see of them, I'm quite proud of this batch. Marian ps None of them were faceting grade, all were almost opaque and most a deep blood red color, all were mine run rough from "rainboroc"

Loooooooooooove your batch of garnets!!!That must be very satisfying to have them turn out so nice.
Good job! I have a tiny rock that has tiny little minuscule garnets on it, but these would probably be gemstone quality (they're clear) but they're so small - I may try my luck at getting them out of there at some point.....

Marian-
I would just suggest you play w/ different backgrounds. It looks like the garnets are on a shiny plate, try taking the pictures w/ the stones on a more neutral background so your work stands out. Look at other posts and see how they take picts and what they use as a background.
I'd love to get a nice close look at those garnets. Sounds like a fun time and hope you're happy w/ them.
They look really nice, round and smooth!!! gaeter

good job- man you babied that batch- I know it lol, after poor Alice lost hers plus other stuff in her last Garnet batch, I figured better be safe than sorry mine were the same type Garnets as hers. I think we should learn from each other's triumphs and tribulations. So Alice, your Garnets did not die in vain... Marian ps Wish the pic was better...*sigh*

Thanks Tweet I have a rock like that too, I think it's called Spessartine, I finally slabbed a piece off it today and it had garnets or something like them inside too, but they were hard to see. I tried scraping the tiny ones off the surface to no avail lol! Marian

I find taking them outside works the best all around though, I took the Garnet pic last night inside. I had an awesome digital camera and broke it, so I bought a new one but it was all upgraded and I thought oh cool new stuff! NOT! This camera takes the worst digital pictures, no clarity, resolution is crappy too. I guess maybe I'm doing something wrong with the settings or somthing. Marian

some of the older cameras had a really nice macro feature that is no longer available in "main stream" selection these days. yes, you can spend a LOT of buckeroos to get one expressly for that these days, but....most of us in here have other, more important equipment on the list.
i'm lucky, i have an older SONY Cyber Shot about 8-10 years old, they """don't make'em like they used to.."""
you got some great garnets there, some of the smaller ones are real jewelry candidates, you did real good in the patience department!!
i didn't get to go garnet hounding a few weeks back for various reasons, but i hope to go soon. will keep your recipe in mind, THANKS!

I think your pics turned out just fine. I like the idea of the clear dish so you can see clearly whats on it and the sparkling colors! Its interesting how we can all learn from each other. In the process we will have gained a wealth of knowledge, let alone tons of rocks! Everyone collects something. Why should we be any different....Rocks are our thing! Its nice to get together with others who have the same interests as we do.

Funny how you can look at a pic and miss something in it...when I first looked at the pic all I saw was those sparkling, gleaming stones on a clear shaped dish. How many of you noticed the first time that the clear glass dish is in the shape of a fish?

The glass dish takes nothing away from the beauty of the stones. Your eyes are instantly drawn to them. Great job!
Its nice to look at all the different kinds of stones and their color patterns! Thanks all for posting the pics for all of us to enjoy!
