I started these the beginning of December. This was my first attempt at breaking a big rock and at Jasper. I wasted a lot of good rock in the process (big hammer and chisel). It was a 10lb rock to start with and by the time I got out of course I had just about a 3lb barrels worth. The tumbling didn't go so well at first. Even in 80# I was getting crescent shaped chips in the rock. I had to start over and use plastic pellets in every stage. This helped. The process: 80 2 months 120 10 Days 240 10 Days 400 10 Days 800 10 Days Tripoli 10 Days TinOx 10 Days In between each stage I washed in Ivory for a day with pellets. I sort of rushed it along at the end. I wanted to finish one more batch in Iraq before I returned home. Because of the "fun" I had with the hammer I decided to buy a saw during this tumble. My new Covington awaits my return Stateside. I can't wait. The rocks will thank me. Don't get me wrong, smashing rocks was fun but I really wasted some good coloring and patterns. As with many here, I need to work on the photography. The rock I started with. Broken up. In the barrel. Results.

Great Job JC! Sorry to hear you lost a lot of rock.
When will you be returning home? Are you going home for R&R or to stay?

What I can see of them look beautiful! For some reason, can't get the pics completely downloaded, but I can see enough to tell that they really turned out great.
So, glad you are coming home safe and sound from that hell hole.

Those turned out great! I think Mook is one of the prettiest stones. I have a big piece I have been waiting to slab one I get my monster saw working. It's nice to see what it looks like tumbled. Look at that shine! I need my shades from the sparkle alone!!! Have a safe return home too!

JC-
What a nice bunch you've got there. Man what neat colors. Is this your first go w/ Mook? Those are really some of the coolest looking rocks I've seen posted here.
Good job,
gaeter

WoW! If that's a rush job, I'd like to get some like it. JC that stuff is absolutely stunning, what an awesome shine. Congrats on getting a saw, that's my dream ... someday. Anyone know what the MOH's is on this mook jasper? You mention two months in coarse ... was this because of restarting due to the chips or was this from the time you started with the pellets?

The saw is a 10" Trim saw.
Yes 2 months because I had to redo some to get rid of the chipping. Some were done in about a month. If I had started with better shaped rough it would have been quicker.
I get home, for good, the end of the month or early July.
This was my first shot at Mook. Someone posted some fabulous pictures back in November and I bought some that weekend. I definitely like the stuff.

JC, do you recall where you got it from? I've definitely added that to my list of needed rock. Right now the highest are porcelain jasper and the mook jasper. I just love the colors. Thanks for sharing them.
Be safe Cher
