Hi All,
I've been reading in this forum about shaping, removing pits, cracks and crevases from stones being tumbled. I have a Dremel and wanted to know more about how you all use them for the above. Which bits do you use for which process, and were do you purchase them.
I have also read about using it as a drill for stones. Do you drill the peg or string holes after the stone is polished? Where do you get your diamond drill bits, and what are common sizes?
Thanks for all your knowledge and support
Scott

Hello Scott, I don't know about anyone else, but I get my diamond drill bits from Tripps. They run .99 a piece (if you order more than 10 - which I generally do). I get the 1.5mm bit. It is what I use when I drill the holes in my rock fishing lures, and I use a dremel to do it with. I just hold it in my hand drill away! You can check Tripps out by going to www.tripps.com and I believe you can order a catalog from there as well. Welcome to the board and have a great day! John

You hold the rock in your hand while your drilling?

I hold my stones while I drill them, and while I shape them too. Llana gave me some great advise, to have a bowl of water and dip the stone as you grind. Works really well. Cuts like butta ;D I don't know specs, but I buy diamond bits (sets of 30, not great quality but serve my purpose) on ebay for $9.99. It doesnt matter how long they last, for that price I just get some more. None of this high tech stuff for me, I'm just having fun. Will probably get more serious as I go along. cookie

Thanks I'll try that. I tried shaping with a few bits I had and they were gone in a few minutes, I'll have to buy some of those sets on ebay, thanks Cookie. I'll check out Tripps also.
