I am curious to know if anyone has figured out the cost savings in electricity and grit by using a vibratory tumbler for all the steps execept the first one. I currently have a qt12 and a qt66 running full time.

I am curious to know if anyone has figured out the cost savings in electricity and grit by using a vibratory tumbler for all the steps execept the first one. I currently have a qt12 and a qt66 running full time. Never calc'd energy costs, but vibes work faster after pre-form or rough tumble...........saving maybe 1/2 as much time vs. rotary tumble......since vibes are more efficient, got to believe energy costs 1 to 1, couldn't be more.........more likely less.
Grit & polish amounts, at least for my methods, are much less than rotary, again, maybe 1/2 as much.........depending on stone material like 7mohs Jasper...... really tough stuff like Montana Moss can be on par with rotary due to prolonged pre and polish stages, in my experience.............

Can’t speak to the grit costs of the rotaries. My Lot-O uses about 1.9 KW per 24hr day. At $.14 per KW = $.27 per day. Grit cost is minimal. 1 Tablespoon of 220 for 4 lb. of rough. 1/2 teaspoon of AO500 1/2 teaspoon of polish
