Hi all.. Here's a few pics of my latest batch.. Looks like the quartz may have banged up the soda a little bit, but still took a nice shine. I went with tripoli and Cerium Oxide this time. The first two pics were taken indoors while the last three were taken outside. thanks for lookin'... Jimmy

That looks great! The sodalite turned out extremely well... I'm very surprised at that because it is so much softer than quartz. Were you particularly generous with plastic pellets? I don't think the sodalite looks banged up from the quartz at all... those fractures in some of the sodalite just seem to be the nature of the beast, you get that even running pure sodalite.
The quartz looks great too. Funny, it's such a common material yet you so rarely see it tumbled on this forum.

It's beautiful Jimmy, you did a great job on both. I love tumbling quartz, always have some in every load. I do need to get some of that sodalite, it's such an awesome blue. Super job on the shine!!

OOOOOOh! I love the blue! Are there different types of sodalite? I have some that is very light blue (powder blue) does it vary by region? Great job!

(on my Mom's computer) That's the shinest sodalite I've ever seen! I have done some with cerium but not the tripoli added (yet). Great Job!

..whew, finally able to cruise again.. switched over to a new wireless provider, and they've been going through some growing pains.. but all's good now.. thanks for the comps everyone! the sodalite was interesting to tumble. it is softer than I had realized and the 2lbs melted down to nothing fast.. that's why i threw the quartz in as filler. still went another week or so in 60/90. i should mention the quartz had previously been through numerous 60/90 cycles as "filler" from other batches. Here's the recipe: 60/90 = about 4 weeks 120/220 = 11 days, added pellets 500 = 9 days, 2 hrs borax after Tripoli = 15 days, 2hrs borax after - (really lazy that week/cycle, lol) Cerium Oxide = 8 days, rinse with cool water, hand dry. started with the pellets at 120/220 grit. used about the same amount that i normally would through all the stages until i reached the polish stage. for this stage i added just a little more pellets, polish, and water than usual. Oh and no "used" pellets for the polish stage. thanks, jimmy
