Okay so it's about an hour away, but considering that home is home to grey granite this is a definate improvement. For those who find great agates near home pardon my excitement over simple quartz - wish I could find beautiful agates as I've seen, but right now I'll settle for these. Daughter & I went with our rock club & had to leave after a few hours as mosquitos & deer flies were driving everyone nuts! Here is the whole haul: Wanted to find blue quartz but deer & horse flies were tiring me out (from waving them away). My daughter got about 1 lb of mica - some of it is over 1" thick - found a chunk of mica 4-5 inches thick. There's clear, pink & smoky quartz. These are garnet encrusted quartz, who knows what's inside these - maybe a real gem - hmmm I wonder This is black Tourmaline (there's the colorful kind elsewhere but it's a 2 mile walk to get there. This stuff sometimes turns into mica (called mica pseudo tourmaline - I think) These are real keepers - the clear one on the toothbrush is amazing - crystal clear! Thanks for looking

Hey Tweet, looks like you got a good haul. How lucky that you can find stuff like the garnets and tourmaline close by you. Quartz is cool, I like tumbling quartz, it always takes such a nice shine.

Gaetz, Great rocks there! They should tumble nicely. Here's some Quartz from Utah.....Alta Utah area. Hard to tumble these, but no need to. Steve

Tweet, I think your coolest find there is the tourmaline. Black is the lowest grade, but it your "colourful tourmaline" is the red, green, or watermelon kind, then it is definitely worth the two mile hike... I looked into buying some of the colourful stuff for tumbling, but it costs a fortune. Black is more reasonably priced, but I'm not really into black tumbled rocks.

Rollingstone, the tourmaline with the hike is the green, red & watercolor ones. Not sure on the size of the finds though - I may have to ask if they (my club) intend on going there sometime this summer - I've seen it and gawked over it - would love to find some.

Hey Tinman - very willing to trade, does your offer still stand if I tell you I live in southern Canada? Let me know.

Nice Haul Tweetie. Those will probably be the hardest rocks you'll find when you go hunting with your minerology club (In Qc) ... Will you be tumbling those?
There's a possiblitiy that we may be moving to Rigaud ... We should get the kids together and go rock hunting together some time this summer.

Alice, of course I'll be tumbling those - if I can ever get a tumbler barrel free - seems I've been tumbling my two batches forever.

Nice haul Tweet- Ok here is how to deal with deerflies! They like to land on the highest point soo- hold your hand above your head and slightly ahead of you face- when it lands- SWAT one less deerfly! They also make sticky pads for the top of your hat (fly lands and sticks until his death!!!!!!) However I seem to forget it is there and swat something with my hat and well lets say hairy legs and sticky pads don't go good together!- Oh and carry some ammonia or toothpaste to put on any bites!

Thanks Stefan for the tip, we were wondering why they weren't buzzing around our legs or something. Does the toothpaste also work for mosquito bites - my ankles are huge with bites.

Well I hope toothpaste works as I have a minty green paste & smell coming off of me - does brand matter? I'd hate to use Colgate when I have to use Crest?
