Ringing Rock Park Upper Black Eddy Pa We stayed at Ringing Rock Campground which is about 3 min away from the park. This pic is of the boulder field, where you use a hammer or some other type of metal and hit each rock. Each rock has a distinctive ring, very metalic. Somehow a large chunk of a particularly high pitched boulder jumped into my pocket, naughty chunk This is my Husband Rob (he's a hotty) and our son Robert, who slipped just before this pic was taken so he was alittle unerved. www.angelfire.com/nj/chefmarsfunnyfarm/P5130030.JPGHere is what I believe to be an eastern hognose snake, anyone wanna take a guess? www.angelfire.com/nj/chefmarsfunnyfarm/P5130031.JPGThere wasnt much to collect there, all of it was slate or shale, I wasnt impressed with. I did love the falls though, I bet in early spring when the snow thaws it's pretty awesome!!! Well that was my Memorial Day!!! Enjoy!!! Marian

what an interesting looking place! looks like hours of fun to go climbing around, although that snake pic would make me a little leary of putting my foot (or hands) in dark corners. that second shot almost looks like it could be in Oregon it is so mossy and green.
thanks for posting, Marian! your family rocks!

What a pretty area, hope your son wasn't damaged at all by the fall. Looks like a great place to visit though.

So you're saying it's a garden type snake? I know it isnt venomous because it had round eyes and a round little head, looked as if it just ate. Very cute! Marian

I think you are probably right with your snake I.D. Never seen an eastern hognose snake myself, but here's some pics and info: www.herpnet.net/Iowa-Herpetology/reptiles/snakes/e.hognose_snake.htmlNice looking snake, and a good sunny spot for him/her too. The ringing rocks sound neat... so it's the rocks themselves that ring and not your hammer? Weird.

My boy was fine, just slipped on some slippery rocks and landed on his hands, I think the slimy moss on his hands freeked him out more than the fall lol... Marian

KD We were there for hours banging on rocks, my son loved it! Hubby is a mountian goat he likes to scale rocks and stuff, it makes me nervous!!! The falls look tiny in the pic, but they are appox 200ft across at the top, and it's all slate or shale, amazing! I can't imagine what it looks like at full tilt in the spring! There were many snakes, so we had to be careful, but most of them were the cute little garden type. I wish my daughter was there, we missed her she had to work, and to top it off her store managers got robbed at gunpoint while she was working, she's ok she didnt see a thing. I think I'm more upset than anyone, she's my baby!!! Marian

Cool looking place- Looks like the shale and slate we have around here! Hope your daughter wasn't too shaken (my son was robbed last summer- Man he was shaken for about a week- then they caught the SOBs -turns out the scam they ran had hit every fast food joint in a 10 mile long line- Cops were waiting at the one at the end of the line and Bang- nailed em in the act!

Sorry about your son, I bet he was shook up, I'd be a basket case for sure, it's only natural to feel that way... Glad they caught them, thieves are so predictable! She's doing ok, she's a mellow kinda kid. They caught the girl in the gettaway car that night and she ratted the guy out. The caught the guy a couple days later on the roof of an apartment building. It was a standoff but turns out he didnt have a gun up there so they ambushed his a** and locked him up, kinda wish they'da took him out. He hails from a long family line of well known scum, guess he wanted to stay in the family business. I'm just glad my baby and yours are ok... Marian

Stone, It was such a cute little snake, he didnt seem to mind us gawking at him either lol, thank you for the link. The rocks actually ring, the little chunk I have rings if I tap it with my fingernail. Some ring better than others, but it's not like anything I've ever seen or heard of before. Thinking of cutting the chunck into lengths about 4-6 inches long and stringing them up for a wind chime, cool or what? Marian

Way cool keep us posted on the ringing chimes! I think Doc or some one made some once- can't remeber what the post was about (I think the chimes came in later as an after thought)
