Have been wearing out my dremel as of late and while I have some down time at work I thought I'd share some pics of a few I've made the last cpl days... Cut this from a random rock purchase and believe it to be Mookaite. First time with this material and I really like working this with the dremel. The pinks and purples are more vibrant than how it looks in the picture. Blue Lace- another I enjoy working with the dremel. Maligno Jasper- this stuff frustrated me to no end. This was pretty much the only interesting cab I was able to get out of the slab. Every other one seemed solid but fell apart when shaping it. Next two are Mexican Moss agate. The colors are a bit more vibrant in person . This piece was a broken off sliver too thin to dome so just evened out the thickness and touched up edges. Thought it was kinda cool. This one was cut from a rock purchased from markymark. The picture doesnt capture the colors that well. Really gorgeous deep red orange colors. Not sure what this material is. I was going for a sorta 3d look to the cab that had lot of depth to it. So i made a higher dome than normally do. Didnt come out exactly as i had hoped but still fairly happy with it. My daughter says she wants it bc it looks like a turtle shell lol. And Lastly, This Stone Canyon Cab. What I envisioned when Cutting This One was a scene of looking through tropical foliage at a beach with the blue water and waves crashing on the shore. lost some of the foliage when grinding but really like how it came out. thats all for now. thanks for looking!!

dang..looks like there might be a fracture in the stone canyon cab. on the upper left hand side. hopefully I can fix it without altering the cab much.

Very nice! That Maligno Jasper is difficult to work with for sure. I have a few cabs that I dremeled- it has beautiful colors and patterns but isn't easy. And I really like the unknown- your daughter has a good eye!

Cool, I dig the turtle shell. Looks like some stromatolite, not sure where from. thanks! that's what I was thinking it could be too.

I have one more slab of it and dont think I will be in any rush to get more anytime soon. too much other material I've yet to work with than to hassle with it imo.

Very nice work. Thanks for posting. I also think the "turtle shell" is stromatolite.

I also agree with stromatolite. Most likely from Wamsutter, Wyoming.
Many found there, although they are found in other places. I pick them up in the desert east of San Diego.

I like the stromatolite best, but those dendrites in the MT are mighty fine. I really enjoy your freeforms, too.

I usually wonder if my shapes are too wonky and/or distracting from the stone and if I'd be better off using templates. but damn templates are expensive.
