go BOOM! I was working in the stockroom Sat. night trying to inventory the back by myself before we had to do the sales floor Sun. night (I have one employee right now and she was at her other job), we have new scanners this year and they have little screens on them and I was trying to figure out something, walking and reading the screen at the same time, when I tripped over a foot stool, wiped out a few rows of shoe boxes and went air borne, coming to rest firmly on my left knee. While I was still in the air a part of me said "some part of you is about to hurt Real Bad". I didn't break anything but even the 911 paramedic was impressed with the way I split the skin and underlying tissues wide open, a very clean laceration. 911 has been called to my store 3 times in the last 4 months for accidents that ultimately required stitches. The last time a girl caught her ring on some of the metal shelving in the stock room and darn near tor her finger off. I'm beginning to think I should have some one come in , burn some incense and say some words, get that bad stuff out of there? If you get queasy, turn back now. It took 7 stitches on my knee. I'll go to great lengths to get out of doing inventory Since I am the only member of management right now I closed it down for 2 days and by God, they WILL get someone down here to help me! cookie

Ouchie.....what you need is some nice pretty shiny rocks to protect you from accidents. It was one of those unpolished rocks that kicked that stool in front of you...
Hope ya feel better....

Oh, ouch.......that looks bad. What you need is nice polished piece of amethyst to carry in your pocket. If you are in a lot of pain, put a piece of amethyst on top of your knee. You need one that is kinda flat on one side. And, no, I am not crazy, it will help take away the pain and help it to heal faster. Stones do have healing powers as I have discovered. Last fall, I broke my little toe. I couldnt wear shoes to work cause it hurt too much to try to get my foot in a shoe so I wore flip flops to work. I tripped and stubbed the toe that was broke and I was in a lot of pain. I had on an amethyst necklace so I put the amethyst on top of my little toe. In about 20 minutes, the pain was gone and my toe felt real warm. By the next morning, a lot of the swelling had gone down and all the dark purple bruising had faded to a light pale color. Made me a believer so now I always carry a piece of amethyst with me wherever I go for protection. Tonya

Thanks for reminding me, Tonya. That's something I suggest others to do but didn't think about myself! I'll put a flat piece under my pillow tonight and carry it with me to work tommorrow.

Cool Cookie! Those stitches will add an interesting effect on nights out. On the flip, total bummer. I reccomend, getting a Vitamin E capsul, penetrating it, and putting the fluid on the scar tissue. It helps the healing. The knee is an hard place to effect rapid healing. There is too much movement to minimize scarring. With my artificial knee, I have over 400 stitches on my right knee. I do not wear shorts anymore. I am indeed glad you did not infarce the patella and it is only stitches. It could have been so much worse. Oh, yeah. The Vitamin E will minimize the itching that results from healing. Even after the stitches come off, keep using Vitamin E untill the callus drops off and fresh scar tissue is present. Be careful. Life is short. Glad you did not bust your face, or broke an arm. A fall like that can do some real damage. I broke my right elbow putting on roller scates and standing up. It broke in 14 places. Just like that. Done in a second. Bone came right through the skin.

Cookie-
that really bites big time. Good to hear you didn't bust a wrist or something. I don't think this injury will put your rocking career in jeopardy.
Take it easy and Keep your head up!!!!!!!!

Ohhh, roller skating, that brings back painful memories. Broke my arm roller skating 3 years ago. Silly me, thought it was like riding a bike, dont ever forget....wrong! Fell down after 20 minutes, hit my elbow on cement and fractured my arm. Made it real interesting trying to drive a stick shift with one hand.......LOL. ;D

You shoulda put that "turn back now" part BEFORE you started to describe it! Sheesh, my stomach was turning flips hearing about it - actually seeing it didn't even faze me! I'm weird like that - can see blood and guts - no problem, but hearing about it - big time queasy!
You really did a number there, gal! My number 1 medicine for cuts is Neosporin. Never tried vitamin E or an amythyst, but have used Neosporin on me and Max and it did the trick FAST. Nearly amputed my little finger on the 5th wheel hitch a couple of years ago. BE cleaning it out required my brother in law and sister keeping me from jumping out of my skin, but once it was cleaned up, I used neosporin. The next day I could see that it was already on it's way to healing, wasn't even very sore, was completely healed in a week or so.. Don't even have a scar now. Vitamin E and an amethyst won't protect it from infection, Neosporin will and it will help prevent scarring. Slap some Neosporin on it, then a bandaide to keep your slacks/panty hose rubbing against it and in a couple of days you'll be on your way to being good as new!
I am so glad you didn't hurt yourself really bad. A gash in the knee is not fun, but you could have broken something or hit your head and that would have been much worse!
Dr. Llana's advice is to cover it with neosporin and a bandaide, take a couple of days off work, toss all your polished stones in the middle of the bed, strip naked and jump right in the middle and roll around in 'em all day! That's sure to make ya' feel better!

Hey I had something very similar happen to my knee years ago. If it's any consolation (and it probably isn't) now I know when a storm is coming. On the bright side I get to sample some of granny's "rheumatiz medicine" whenever that happens...hey...any excuse right? Hope you're on the mend soon.

Dang thing nearly cut my foot off! I limped all weekend and the bruse took forever to clear up!!
