Cabs go missing all the time and are usually found. I sold a flawed Butterfly Wing and then couldn't find it. My filing system needs improvement. I spent some time yesterday sorting cabs into like to see if I could find it and also be better organized. I offered the customer some alternatives and she chose me making a new cab. I actually found a small slab with a similar pattern and material. I have some higher grade Butterfly. I decided to make 3 Butterfly cabs; two are the same shape and since the material is brecciated things can happen (knock on wood). The first 3 are BW, Morgan Hill and Mescalero which is also brecciated and tends to fracture.

Aaah I know from experience how this turns out. You make a couple of killer replacements, your buyer chooses one, which you put in the mail to them. You get back from the Post Office, pick up a sheet of paper on your desk and there's the original.

I had the same thing happen recently where I sold a pendant.
Buyer was such a pleasure and understood.
I offered to let her know when I find it but so far for the life of me I still dont know where it is.
Now I sold a slab and cant find that either and the sad thing is, I'm pretty organized (most of the time)

Ha! I’m a novice but already know plenty about losing rocks. That Amy heart was lost, found, went to KS, got left there, mailed back to me, then polished some more and finally shipped to the recipient. Well traveled stone.

This was the replacement she chose. Smaller and nicer than the original. It is in a mailing envelope so less likely to get lost.
