I decided to pare down my collection a bit here, so while doing so I took some shots of my "bowls" of rocks. The lighter colored bowl came from Etsy but I really like it. The other bowls were hand turned from walnut from my father-in-law's property in central Missouri. I did not turn them myself - I traded the skilled labor for plenty of walnut wood for the craftsman EDIT - rather than start a new thread I just added a pic at the bottom of some new Sodalite. Tougher to shine up but I feel like I got a good shine on it (pic doesn't show it super well). I did a large piece for fun. Enjoy! You have quite an array of different types and colors of rocks there! I wish I had such a collection. I especially like the blue which occupies the 8 O'clock position in the first picture. And it looks like you singled those out for the separate shot at the bottom. Sodalite, hmm. Interesting. I understand it is a more difficult stone to work with due to hardness (or lack thereof). The Obsidian bowl is cool. I hope to run across something like that some day.

I was pleased with those pieces and I didn't want to start a thread for my first sodalite attempt so I just piggy-backed it onto this thread. Regarding the obsidian - I can pm you where I purchased all the separate rough if you are interested.. or the recipe etc. I am enjoying obsidian a ton. The darker pieces look amazing in person and are not photographed well.

Great cllection! I love all the banded stones in the bowls. The turned bowls are a great idea. Those obsidians are gorgeous. The pink (Botswanas?) came out great.
