I agree with MsAli. They are keepers!

I see intarsia. Core drill out the punky center and plug the hole with something. Possibilities are endless.

Yeah, I get those also. Sometimes I think, they just needed another million years or so to be perfect! They are still so unique... where can you get those orbs and colors in any other rock? Pat is right, “They are keepers”! I think many would appreciate their beauty as is or as a polished specimen. Better luck on the next ones that you cut! Jeff A

I really like Rockoonz' idea of replacing the cores with another stone. Those slabs are so pretty, even with the punky centers. Absolutely keepers, regardless.

What I can't tell from the pictures is whether the fractures are healed. They are common in the material and could either be a flaw or an attribute. I made this cab a long time ago and wish the picture was better.

You know, @jadedvision, you could also fill the voids and fractures with some Hxtal.

Those colors alone are phenomenal. I'd be tempted to use hxtal myself.

It's contagious. Very small piece of rough. I made a facing cut. Maybe the other side will be better.....not.

Boo... that stinks when that happens. However.. maybe filling it in with hxtal as others suggested? Make it more solid appearing when polished.

I got impatient and tried to face the other side without enough glue drying time. Almost completed the cut and it came off the board. Maybe I will get two quarter size preforms. I'll try again on Thursday. No curse this time, only being foolish.

I only have two saws; a hand feed 8 inch trim saw and 16 inch slab saw with a 14 inch mk301 blade. I don't like slabbing on the trim saw since it kills blades. I glue even really small rough to a 2x4 and then use the slab saw.

I use water glass and it soaks off in water in less than a day.
