Had a piece laying around forever so I rip cut and polished it. It is Oak but just from my photo one can not tell. Took a good polish. 11 inches by about 4 inches.

I was thinking RIP 🤔 Rest In Peace ✌️ Glad the Stinking water is ok!! Looks amazing!! There are two ways to cut a board, crosscut and rip cut. some use the term board cut instead of rip cut on the pet word forums. My word working experience only allows me to use the term "rip" cut! Let her RIP! does look like a small tombstone!

Yeah my chainsaw doesn’t work at all for ripping, there’s a special chain for that.... I guess when I split firewood with a maul, it splits with the grain, kind of like a rip cut.

Looks like rip cut oak to me. Years ago I had a sawmill with a 52" circle blade, carbide teeth cut a 3/8" kerf. Anyway, I had occasion to cut some oak and it looked similar to yours.

Yep you got it on the splitting part, ripping with a chainsaw works but the chain had to be sharpened different or a different chain that has been sharpened for ripping. Best not done really.
