[glow=red,2,300] Is it something that's worthwhile? I've got this really nice piece, very smooth already and I'm wondering if it's worth tumbling or could this be something that could be cut into slabs? Is this kind of quartz even worth picking up? [/glow]

every rock has value as far as i am concerned, but then, i'm a hopeless addict.
depending on the size of your tumbler, you may have to whack that down to size. i'd slice it just for fun and because i like to play with my saw, haha.
Quartz is the second most abundant rock-forming mineral and has a huge amount of variety.
get more, tumble it, KD

Hi Cher ,
quartz tumbles very well and you will get some very nice specimens along the way.
I find enough of them on the beaches and i can't resist picking them up unless I realy concentrate on other types haha. And even then , the odd one will still get in the bag.
Just tumble them. I have cut some big rocks with my saw and depending on the quality of the rock they can turn out super nice as slabs too.
Good luck
Jack

pick up and tumble whatever YOU like. some time ago I found a piece of quartz that was almost round and about the size of a golf ball I tumbled it and gave it to a friend who golfs and collects golf balls, after tumbling it I used a engraving tool to scratch the letters FF in it and told him that it must have been Fred Flintstones golf ball, he thought it was one of the worlds greatest jokes.

LOL Warren, that's funny. What a great idea for a gift. Might be kind of a gag, but still thoughtful and fun.
