I got a close-up outside of my finds - some need ID - some are just pretty. This goes along with the auction finds Check out these crystals This I think is the serpentine Is this more serpentine - it feels much smoother Not sure if this is still serpentine Here is a close up of the sodalite - much lighter than any I've seen posted here. Not sure what this stuff is - it's pretty quartzy feeling Check out the crystals on this one - almost too pretty to tumble - ALMOST Purple is my favorite color - I think I was told that this fluorite of some kind - or something that starts with an "FL" Thanks for looking

Heaven's to Besty, those are beautiful!! I must have missed the thread on where you got them. Did you buy them or find them?
I sure wouldn't tumble that "almost to pretty to tumble" one.

Llana - These are found, not by me but by someone from my club - hoping to find my own stuff very soon - I think the green "almost too pretty to tumble stuff" is vesuvianite - haven,t decided if it's tumble-worthy yet -it does look cool though

Hi Tweet, The 2nd 3rd & 4th is serpentine. When i dive for jade in big sur it is all over the place. Be careful when you grind it, it is fiberous like asbestos. Tony

Tweet- I think I have bad news- I'm pretty sure your sodalite- is celestitie (a calcium based mineral) and its too soft to tumble (Mohs 3 I think) Try scratching a file or knife blade with it- If it does not scratch steel it is not sodalite. Cool rocks otherwise- Serpentine is a Asbestos related mineral- BUT is supposed to be safe (not the cancer causing variety) But do be careful if you grind it (dont breathe the dust)

Stefan, the sodalite is much harder than a MOHs 3 - it's tumbling right now with calcite and it's taking much more time than the calcite - for some reason this sodalite is much lighter than what I'Ve seen here. Must be the local variety?
