So it seems to me that they ought to be a piece of coprolite with a dino footprint in it.
I mean, with ALL this poop everywhere, somebody must have stepped in it !

I've found flattened specimens that are clearly obliterated beyond any semblance of a typical specimen. I just leave them in the field because there's just not much left of them. The cool ones are specimens that have had another turd fall on top and they cement together. I'll have to dig up photos of them....

How did you get into turds anyway?

How did you get into turds anyway? I've always loved unusual collections and have long admired the beauty in rocks, so back in 2016 I started helping the owners of a local rock shop liquidate their inventory so they could retire. They made me a deal I couldn't refuse and so I bought most of the rocks including 12 tons of coprolites. We literally weighed them all in plastic milk crates as I moved them and that's how I know how much I have. I've liquidated many of the rocks but decided to create a coprolite collection. It's a big challenge to figure out where to put them. The old folks clued me to the general areas of where to hunt so I could find my own also. Since then I've almost doubled the weight of the collection but have sold much of it. I'm probably at 14 tons at the moment. My goal is to retain the museum grade pieces and sell the rest, but I have to cut them open to see what's inside before I can do this. I'm slowly getting them cut and processed. I'd guess that I keep about 3 percent of them and the rest go to the general public. For now I've stopped collecting them in the field until I can process what I already have.

Wow!! That's incredible and a poop-ton of rocks! I love coprolite, I can't explain why but I find it to be a fascinating material. Thank you for sharing the backstory. It's exciting to know there's that much poop out there.

I am about ready to cut my first turd and it is one of yours RWA3006 (via dillonf by trade). It is kind of flat so I glued it to a wood block for cutting. It seems like you always (or mostly) cut them down the middle. Do you ever slab them? Or don't they slab well?

As near as I've been able to determine it's best to cut slabs in such a fashion as to minimize waste. Pretty much like many other materials. If the goal is to make it into a specimen I've found it's best to bisect it through the widest place, edgeways like cutting a bagel. This maximizes surface area of the inside and gives more cut surface area to view. I slab some and they do well but you never know what's inside till you cut them.

Awww.... it's a wee lil baby dinosaur poop. Yeah, and you know how kids are always putting stuff in their mouths? Well, what's that object in the middle of this one? Could it be a cross section of a limb? Peculiar, this one.
