Okay - here's one that had some different colors in it. These are the two heels from the same piece. There was more of the "blue" color that shows at the top of the longer piece in the slabs toward that end of the chunk.

That's a very nice specimen you have there. I have not seen many with that particular hue, and it looks to be well agatized and solid. Thanks for sharing.

Good question Billy. To the best of my knowledge the answer is yes. I've seen specimens that have bone fragments in them that point toward carnivore source. iirc these came from Montana and China. I noticed the outside texture is unlike the ones I find which tend to be rough and coarse which indicates plant material (I think). The scientific literature I've read about the areas I hunt (southern Utah) indicate that the dominant species of critters making those turds were hadrosaurs in a variety of species.

I grade coprolite by color, contrast and by how highly agatized it is.

I prefer popping colors, bold contrasting patterns and an even, highly agatized texture which minimizes undercutting.

On the exterior I prefer the texture to be rugged with contrasting colors.

I consider the interior of this one to be museum grade.

would this be coprolite? got it in box of rocks. it appears to be a translucent brownish agate all the way thru. dont think be very interesting cut but maybe can remove outer rind and polish it without losing much of shape. any thoughts?
