We're not done yet. These posts are dedicated to RTHlings who don't have dates this Friday night. This one might be peculiar. First I'll square off the flat end, then I'll try to cut a slice along the longitudinal flat place, then I'll figure out what's next. Stay tuned...

Bisect cut. That's a really nice one, Randy! Every one is a mystery. I haven't fired up my saw in a while, and won't any time soon. Summer just hit us full force. Don't normally expect the high temps until September or October. But I guess everyone is having to live with them right now. I remember when I was cutting rocks, I always hated to have to make decisions on how to cut based on what little I could see!

We got the end nipped off and nothing too impressive, but upon closer examination I think I can see ghosts of large twigs. Normally I'd put this one in the getbacktoit pile but the ghosts lure me onward.

Nothing very special. Now what to do? If it were most other materials I'd stop here, but the possibility of ghosts spurs me on. Worst case scenario is it will be sold as an affordable novelty to a tourist. What would you do?

I flipped the cut side to the bottom and let her rip. It turned out prettier than I anticipated and I can see some ghosts from three o'clock to twelve o'clock, but they are not obvious..

I see 2 (possibly 3) possible ghosts. I figure it is already in the vice so my guess is you continued cutting! Now for a few of my own slices: Yea this stuff is amazing to cut.

Wow, stefan! That one has got an amazing texture on the inside. I thought I was looking at the exteriors at first.

stefan those slices look like a conglomerate of fossilized pellets than are typical of some coprolite. If you've ever seen little piles of deer or sheep droppings they can look similar as a mass of pellets.

Yes it does, and at first I thought maybe Dino bone, but the pattern just isn't like any bone I have seen. Still got about half of this one to cut in the cross section.

Or an ancient cave wall painting. I've seen some wall paintings on third world train station restrooms that were neither fossilized, or ancient. Poo was a common denominator though.

Many of these coprolites remind me of deep space images.

stefan I just cut this one and it reminded me of yours. I'm thinking it has to be a mass of pellets.

Yup! Once the heat breaks I'll be cutting some more. Saw is set up in the garage, and it get too dang hot to work out there
