By activity there are 4 kinds of dung beetles - Dwellers (in the feces), Tunnelers (under the feces), Rollers (rolls the feces), and Thieves (steal the feces). My guess is that RWA3006 's beetles were of the first kind. The other three would leave no voids in the feces - Well, the tunnelers would leave voids at the bottom. Hey 1dave do you know what I hate the most about dung beetles? That silly little shit eating grin on their faces.

I love the (what appears to be) blue or purple tones in this one. It's different than the normal red/yellow/orange/green colors!

I thought those coprolite sentry towers in your yard were your personal finds. Now that I know where many of the rocks come from, I like them even more. A story worth sharing. Thank you.

About half my current inventory is personal find material and the other half I bought from the Hammers. How plentiful is coprolite at your best hunting grounds? How much might you find in a day? Is new poo being weathered out? What is the largest piece you have found or seen? (Large dinos must have had very large poo). Do you find other lapidary rocks at the same locations? I imagine you would find pet wood, at a minimum.

I've found some specimens the size of bushel baskets but they usually have a few fractures and the are usually bland inside, no popping colors or patterns.

I've gotten to where I hike a lot to range farther away from roads. I can fill a pickup bed in a few days if I'm not too picky about what I take and I'm in good shape. I use an internal frame backpack from my bighorn sheep hunting days if the distance is past bucket hauling.

I love the contrast of colors in that last one! Between the black and white on the outer edges and the oranges in the middle, that one has a lot to keep the eyes interested.

There seems to be some interest about WHERE Randy hunts. Simple. He goes where there is coprolite in Utah and Wyoming. Alas I'm confined to hunting via Google Earth, but I can share a little. One place he likes is west of the Colorado River and north of Bullfrog. From Bullfrog take Utah 276 northeast past the place where they park all the boats. There are lots of trails and I assume he takes all of them.
Shootaring Mine is a Uranium Mine. Del Mont Mine I believe was Copper, Silver, Gold.
A Google View - A place to stay is Ticaboo on State Route 276, more than 90 miles (140 km) east of Panguitch, the county seat of Garfield County. Its elevation is 4,265 feet (1,300 m).[1] It has a post office with the ZIP code 84533. Ticaboo gets its name from Ticaboo Creek, which was named by Cass Hite in the 1880s, from a Paiute word meaning "friendly". You may one day need to find Lost Spring.

There you have it folks. Shitaring, aka, Shootaring area is ground zero for coprolite.
A bonus area is about an hour and a half North just southwest of Green River about a dozen miles East of the grape agate deposit.
The old timers could just drive to deposits but now days more legwork is required to find better places.
