Had to share this piece I received from Randy. I love the colors in it. OMG! That dinosaur swallowed a penny! I had my timeline all wrong for these creatures! Sheesh! It's a bank Jason.

That one reminds me more of a thunderegg than any I’ve seen so far. It brings a whole new meaning to thunderegg.

I have been wondering what causes the lightning effect on some coprolite. Am guessing it is due to the original shape of the pile and the ability for replacement of other materials during the petrification process.
Posted a photo of a piece Randy sent me on another web page. Was told I was mistaken. It was not coprolite, but several other possibilities. Thunderegg was listed as one. Septarian as another. Jasper was a third.
Was also informed that coprolite was extremely rare. That most rocks attributed as being coprolite are actually something else. This is being done by crooked sellers. Was also told that some of the areas that were "known" for having coprolite, have been proven to just be beds of T-eggs.
I just replied that the piece was collected by a coprolite expert in an area known for having them. The nay sayer backed off.
I love this thread and everything I am learning from it.

You were visiting the wrong site and the amateurs were just giving you some fresh coprolite.

Jasper was a third. Invite them to visit this thread so they can see what they don't know. Many, or most folks for that matter, are only acquainted with more well known coprolite of fish, reptiles, etc.
