Hi all. My wife and daughters gave me a new digital camera for Fathers Day and I have to learn how it works, so, I may as well take pictures of rocks. Right? It's a new model Sony Cyber-shot with 12x zoom, 5.1mp, and man, is this camera sweeeeet! So out of the 120 pics I shot today, here are a few that came out well enough to share(and of things I haven't posted yet). Brazilian agate slab Agate bookends 5"x3"x2" Blue Lace necklace I made for my wife for our 15th Anniversary backlit by the sun, playing with manual exposure on the camera A piece of Morgan Hill poppy jasper. This is nice stuff. I've got some in the tumbler and it's looking very nice so far. Well this camera has a lot of nice features, and one of these days I'll learn how to use it to it's full capacity. Ed I guess the first thing I should learn is re-sizing the pics. Sorry about the large size.

Congrats on the new camera. I love the Morgan Hill jasper. I looked at trying to score some of that on ebay, but it is very pricey for nice poppies like you have there. Can't wait to see it tumbled, and with your new camera you should get great shots of it too!

What a totally cool father's day gift you got ... Congrats! That's some really nice jasper, love the colors in it but love the necklace even more, is that Blue Lace Agate? What kind of agate are those book ends made of?

Great pics and great camera! Did you set the Blue Lace yourself? Awesome gift, given you made it with your own 2 hands. If I go into Photo bucket with a pick about 900 pixels and reduce it to 75% of original size it comes out perfect. There is probably a way to do it with the program that came with the camera as well. I still don't understand what my camera does. I can turn the flash on and off but that's about it.

Hi all. The poppy jasper was bought at my local rock shop. Turns out the owner is making room for other things so he put his personal stash out for sale. I bought the setting for the necklace-haven't gotten into silver-smithing...yet. I won't get to play with the camera much until this weekend, but when I do, I'm sure I'll be posting more pics.

Very nice stuff there Ed. I love that Morgan Hill you have. You did a great Job on that necklace too. You are a man of many talents, and it won't be long before photography gets added to the list. I didn't see any thing at all wrong with the shots you launched. You do good work there, my friend!

Thanks Banjo, I need all the encouragement I can get.
Hey Tony, I got the poppy jasper from Wenrics. I cut the agate slab. Not sure which one you meant.

stoner, nice rocks and very nice agate pendant necklace. ditto on the nice Morgan Hill poppy jasper. I would like to get some of that. AND, nice work with the pix. you have the macro mode down pat already! Takes some folks [like me! ] awhile to figure out how to take closeups which are in focus. ed

The bookends turned out really cool! Personal favorite is the necklace you made for your wife. Lovely! Also, I like how you photographed it! Great presentation!
