I'm afraid much of it was fractured more than we would have liked ... typical of that species.
Captain Bob got a batch of it too.

I'm afraid much of it was fractured more than we would have liked ... typical of that species. That was also my experience with nearly every piece I brought back from Holt Canyon in 2017. It's SO beautiful that I just had to haul out a bunch of it but barely any of it would hold shape in a slabbing. I quickly gained an understanding of why zarguy became so good at picking out the small pieces of the material and making gorgeous cabs in the shape the rock giveth.

I love Holt Canyon agate/jasper, but it is hard to find pieces that are fracture-free. I'm very selective on what I bring home and even then have to stabilize many chunks, slabs, preforms & cabs. In other words - I stabilize it at all stages if necessary. Hxtal is my epoxy of choice. It's relatively expensive and has a long cure time (heat speeds that up), but it's worth it. Good luck with the material you bought. Lynn www.hxtal.com/

Excellent point Dave! It was that post that convinced me to purchase Hxtal for the first time. Amazing stuff that I haven't had to use very many times but it definitely works good especially in a vacuum chamber setup.

A QUICK AND EASY VACUUM can be obtained using an empty Just open the valve and heat the can to expand and drive out the air. Close the valve and cool. Attach rubber tube and use the vacuum where desired.
