I am kind of getting behind with my pictures and postings lately. Plus today I just figured out that I can't file my taxes online because someone else decided to use my (or wife's) SSN#. Fun times i guess I will be talking with the IRS this morning. Love government agencies ...
On a brighter topic, here are some my recent attempts to botch the appearance of perfectly good cabochons, using wires which are hastily wrapped around them.
P114 - Holt Striped Jasper Tear. I found this one out at Holt, but it's an oddity as I only got one rock. Luckily the material is defect free and I have several slabs to use from it. Wrapped in 22 gauge. The background rock was picked up from one of the rivers in the Yosemite area (which I love).
P115 - Orange Space Dogs - I've been sitting on this for a while, picked up along the banks of the Colorado. I stopped cabbing it right here because I saw a dog. It is a very difficult shape for me to wrap, but I tried here. 20 Gauge. The dogs asked for beads.
Here is the (Front):
Here is the (Back). Do you see another space dog? I do. Maybe it's just me.
P116 - Variscite Gold Bug - A really small guy (stone), a little more than 1" tall. Brought back from my Royston trip last year. I took a side shot because I thought it would shows better. Tall crown on it. 24 gauge.
P117 - Gunlock Swirl Oval - Here is another piece of the Jasper/Agate from Gunlock. I know the wrap is really busy, and probably too much for the busy looking stone. Plus I tried something unusual on top. Done in 22 gauge. It is hard for me to make symetrical looking wire accents. One mistake and you are starting over.
P118 - Malachite Tribal Beads - This is a solid piece of Malachite from the Azurite mine tailings (write up coming). It is hard to find material, and this is about 2 inches tall. So it's bigger. I kind of used beads to give it a tribal or Native American appearance. Done in 20 and 22 guage. This shines better than the picture shows. But it does not have much of a crown at all.
P119 - Holt Canyon Butterscotch Wood - It is Jasper, but to me it looked wooden because of the bands. I have a lot of this material, but it is not a solid as I like. You can even see fractures in this piece. Hard to get cabs from it, shame. Done in 22 gauge.
P120 - Columbia Chrysocolla Leaf - Came out better than I thought. A long 2+ inches on this stone, but wrapped in smaller gauge wire (22 and 24). Better looking stone than it appears here, as the camera focused on the rock in the background instead.
P121 - Bacon Agate Tear - Some of the Bacon Agate I had left from the Anniversary mine area. Small at just over an inch tall, there is more going on with the bail than it appears here. I pulled it off, but it was less satisfying than I imagined. Plus I didn't center then wrap at the top. Oh well. It's small, so it will get worn at least. My wife doesn't often wear the 'big clunky grandma' stuff I make.
That's about it for now. I have some more done but need to get them pictured and catalogued. Plus I have to fight the IRS now. Joy.
Thank you for stopping by to have a look!
