thought I'd share some cabs I've been working w dremel. some are sanded and ready for lot o and others that not sure about. i guess I will start with the worst first. Moroccan Agate - this was my bonehead mistake of not checking the backside of slab for flaws when I cut it. midway through doming a small pit turned to full blown hole I'd like to reshape it but backside shows other cavities that likely will show thru as well. this next one is unknown. came from pretty fractured rock and most of the material looks nothing like this piece. this was only salvageable piece I managed. the pits didnt show until midway thru doming. goes too deep to grind out. maybe wont look so bad when polished... next up is Prudent man vein #2 (I think)- got a small slab of this that turned out to be filled with fractures but had great pattern. I managed to find a usable piece and was finishing the dome when lost grip of cab and put nice deep gouge in it with the bit. ended up losing a bit of the pattern and messed up the shape. Noreena- Unknown- has some sparkle in the dark areas moroccan jasper- next three are Moroccan agate- and last is also Moroccan agate and my favorite of the bunch even tho I'm not thrilled with the shape. i feel like I need to make it more symmetrical or do something with the corners. and unsure which orientation looks better. any thoughts on shape or orientation? thanks for looking!

Nice cabs and good saves. The red/black unknown sort of looks like Mary Ellen Jasper.

Nice set! The Prudent man is pretty cool
Beth could be right on the unknown, but to me it doesnt have the distinctive MEJ swirls. Looks more like red jasper w/ hematite.

Another nice set! I really like the second one even with the faults.
I agree, red jasper and hematite.

Some great looking cabs! I really like the look of the Noreena! As for the orientation of the last cab, my vote is for the orientation in the last picture. I think the whitish area with the little island of orange/yellow looks better towards the top of the cab. In general, if there is a color/lightness gradient, I like cabs that are lighter at the top and darker at the bottom.

Lovely cabs!
I'm with rockjunquie on the second one. I don't see any problem with the last one's shape at all. You did a great job on it and I like the orientation it's in. Very pretty.

Just saw this, very nice work again! You do a great job with the dremel. Fantastic. Funny, I just posted one with that same shape that you were asking about and I had almost the exact same thoughts as you with mine. But I'm leaving it as is, I think you should also. It's a freeform, after all. I might be in the minority, but I think I like the orientation in the first picture better. It's all a matter of personal taste...
