Ok, I think I’m going to try these to start. I’m worried the one on the left with the black banding won’t work out, but May as well see how it does in the first grit?? Any other insights?

Looks like you've got a good selection there. The ones on the right look a bit like chalcendony. If so, they should take a nice shine. Dive in and have fun! You can always re-do a step or even re-tumble them if they don't come out the way you would like. I'll often throw junk or mystery rocks into my tumbles to see how they look. It'll help you decide which rocks you'll want to pick when collecting. The tutorials on this site are super helpful too. Btw don't forget to check your barrel daily. It prevents gas from building up. I mostly see it the first 24-48 hours with new grit. Just pop it open and check a rock or two. Then rinse the lid and clean the barrel shoulder before you close it back up. Meminer has a good video showing the tumble process and so does Michigan Rocks. Looking forward to seeing your updates.

Never know how they will turn out. My first round I had the same feeling on a couple. After doing stage 1 a second time they look like they are going to work out fine!
I second what kyoti said about MeMiner and Michigan Rocks. I've watched a few from both and found some good information there.
Please share as you go through this process! I'm having a ball being new to this and hope you will too.

Bekki~
I will be very curious to see the second from bottom, far right; it already appears to be somewhat smooth.
Also, did you photograph these on a light table? Very cool

It’s actually just a white piece of paper, but I had a light on the rocks from behind them (backlighting them essentially) and then also used the flash on my camera to give them that lit effect

What happens if there is too much of it?!

A few people have told me it will pop the top open. I think it's more common when tumbling glass. You can actually see when it's a bit puffy. The bottom of the barrel sort of bows out. You can probably go days without checking. I'm probably just over cautious

What happens if there is too much of it?! I think this is a regional problem. My barrels usually have negative pressure, I have never had a convex base on my lorton 3lb
