Got this rock from a friend and took a pass at making some slabs. Not sure where it's from. Any ideas what it might be?? Secondly, would you try polishing the olive green matrix material or just focus on making a cab out of the center agate type material?

No idea what it is, but it sure is awesome! The matrix looks like it may be hard enough to polish, so I'd probably use it if there's a shape that uses some of it that you like. You can always recut it if it doesn't polish.

That's my guess, too. I believe I have something similar to it, but I'd have to go hunting for it. I know I never cabbed it yet. Pretty sure it was just a small slab, picked up at a show or sale.

Mossy Thunderegg, likely from Richardson Ranch, Oregon.. They make great cabbing material...

I have similar thundereggs from Richardson Ranch in Oregon. The host rock on mine polishes well.
