so I started cutting into some Holt Canyon agate that I purchased and it is literally crumbling to pieces before I can get a slab cut. I've read that Holt canyon material generally contains a lot of fractures but was hoping the hard part was working around fractures in a slab, not just cutting a slab. the material is gorgeous and I'd hate to see it go to waste so am wondering if there is a stabilization method I could use on it that would allow me to cut a slab without it falling apart during cutting. or with how fractured the material is would I be wasting my time? here it is wet and dry.. thanks in advance for the help!

I love Holt Canyon agate/jasper, but it is hard to find pieces that are fracture-free. I'm very selective on what I bring home and even then have to stabilize many chunks, slabs, preforms & cabs. In other words - I stabilize it at all stages if necessary.
Hxtal is my epoxy of choice. It's relatively expensive and has a long cure time (heat speeds that up), but it's worth it. Good luck with the material you bought. Lynn

Hopefully you can get a few cabs off it to break even with the material....
