My rock buddy and his wife are back from New Mexico, they invited me over last night to check out some of their finds........I told him about some of the stuff I needed identified, my Son and I had found in Utah, so he told me to bring it over too.........They shared some material he'd like me to work on, since much of it is much smaller than he prefers, I'll clean-up, cut and shoot later..........
We were able to identify most of it, like the pieces I recently posted here a couple of weeks ago.........But this one in particular caught his attention. We called over his wife, a semi-retired Geotech, who we both rely on when she's not consulting......one of the connections I used to have at Ninyo & Moore before she retired from there.
Anyway, she brought out her little bag of tricks, did a little chem test and scratched around the piece........looked at both of us and laughed........It's Poop she chuckled........!
It was found, by my boy, at the Gooseberry Campsite in the Fishlake National Forrest, UT............He says there's lots of stuff like it in two specific locations near the reservoir........a place they camp and deer hunt occasionally......He never thought much of it until now.........lol
I gather some of this material has value, Arlene (the Geotech) told me to have my boy collect (the red/brown shiny stuff) as much he can "legally" next time he's up there........Mike (my rock buddy) has a client that works with such material. I was also told not to touch this piece, leave as is........I was planning on cutting it to run through the vibe.......lol

Phosphates, Calcium (Calcite) and something else I didn't catch........lol....she didn't sniff much. Out of curiosity, I'd like to know what animal this came from, but I understand that would be a very expensive evaluation only a few Coprolite researchers perform..! And I'd probably never see it again........lol

This is funny! My wife and I are always looking at each other and saying "I wonder what this rock is?" Oftentimes the response by each other is "It's petrified poop!" (It's not, but it's what we say.)
Thanks for sharing your "crappy" pictures! LOL

That first picture really turned out great! It really showed the vivid colors and textures! (It's still odd to think that eons from now someone - or something - may be taking pictures of my "used" Whopper and fries I had for lunch! LOL)

LOL) If the super volcano in Yellowstone decides to let go, you might just be in range to be “preserved.” Modern sewage plants may not be conducive to human coprolite formation, though. It’ll have to be what we bury on on outings to “primitive” campgrounds in the back country.
