Hi All, I have been lurking lately.... too tired to comment on anything. In fact, I was so tired/stressed lately that all four tumblers have been silent. I was wondering if depression was setting in or something. Actually, it was just work, which has been a royal pain. But, I finished up the latest project. I recently purchased a 24" saw. Had to drive 150 miles to pick it up. The saw was mostly rebuilt and painted, but not fully assembled. Some parts had to be taken off to install other parts. In another week or so (and some more - make that lots of, oil), I should be cutting some big rocks! I also finished a batch last weekend and finally got around to taking some pics - This is a mixed bag. I used my usual formula Coarse - until happy with the shape 120 - one week 500 - one week tripoli - one week Cerium oxide - one week. Actually, I substituted 1000 grit with the tripoli. I think the tripoli give a better shine than the 1000 grit. The first pic is of some unakite aka vomit stone This is Koi Jasper A mixed bag of aventurine, botswana agates and sunset jasper Some odds ands ends Autumn Jaspers [/img] [/img]

Congrats on the new saw! I think they all turned out great. I really like the unakite and koi! I understand about how work can make you feel sometimes. Its great to have outlets like this to help with the stress of life. Sometimes, I just think of work as a hobby that pays for the things I really love to do! Try not to let it bother you too much. Maybe its time for a little R and R!!! And there is a long weekend coming up. Thank God!!! Less time to work more time to play, play and play!!!

Looks alot like my used saw. Hubby is putting castor wheels on it so it will be alot easier to move around the garage. Hopefully, he will get this done soon, as I have been waiting forever it seems to find one, let alone try it out!

NM rocks- Botswana agate is availabel at the Gem Shop on occasion (I think they are out right now) I've also seen it come up on Ebay- I have a local shop that carries it when they can (bit expensive but nice stuff).

;)good to see you posting and not just lurking, Cal. that saw is awesome! ;D
the shine on that autumn jasper is pretty cool too, i finally got some to shine like that after trying all sorts of things.
do you have anymore of that stichtite (sp?) or did you sell it all? it didn't shine when tumbled, but it shapes and grinds nicely.
sorry to hear work is getting you down, hope you are feeling better soon,
KD

Thanks all for both the comments about the rocks, saws and work! The saw has a stamping on the arbor housing "5-28-59", which if true makes it older than me LOL. One item this saw doesn't have is an automatic shutoff. I am going to hook up an automatic shutoff, like the Lortones!
KD, the Autumn Jaspers are a bugger to get to polish. I may try some other polish besides cerium oxide to get a better polish. I did notice that some of the Autumn Jaspers that have soft spots that probably won't take a polish! The one with the stripes/banded is pretty translucent when held up to the light. I tried to take a picture, but either my hand was shaking too much or I missed most of the rock. Yes, I have trouble walking and chewing gum at the same time!
I do have some the stichtite left, send me a PM. You are right about the stichtite being soft stuff. I just touched a piece to the grinder and it ground away very easily, easier than opal.
Thanks again, Cal

Debs, If you can talk your hubby into putting castors on the saw, go for it. I am not sure how I would move this thing without the wheels.
The two front wheels do lock up. I haven't turned it on or cut any rocks yet, so I don't know if the vibrations will cause the saw to "walk around". If the saw does too much walking, I'll block the wheels. Just what I need - being chased by the saw!
