I have a very good repeat customer on Etsy. She has a good eye and buys cabs from me that are better than the pictures. I slabbed some Morgan Hill and asked her if she would like to design her own cab. I gave her a lot of slabs to look at. The first thing I do when cutting a Morgan Hill or any slab with fractures is to mark the fractures. I asked he to mark the area using paint. I put a template on the slabs she picked photographed them and messaged her the pictures with two different size preforms for each. These are the two she picked:

This is the final version: This was not custom work. She may not buy either of the finished cabs. She likes the one with clear and will likely buy it after looking at the finished cab. She understands the fractures that are typical of Morgan Hill but her customers are wary. The slab for the larger one had a huge fracture so the first thing I did was cut the fracture line. It went about 1/2 inch away from the right line. The back and front have different patterns with the face chosen the best, but it may not be as nice after grinding. It is very solid. Both designs made good use of the material.

I worked on the two cabs. The one on the right was doomed. It developed a vug bottom right and then I found two more in the girdle by the nose. No good for the customer but, I will finish and disclose. Bad slab The other one came out as well as could be hoped for; good pattern and no fractures or vugs. I worked on another preform and it has a nice pattern with no fractures or vugs. I will complete them tomorrow.

I finished the cabs. The vug on the problem cab is about a hair wide. This is the other Morgan Hill.

The Morgan Hill is from Paul and fractures need to be worked around. Vugs are unusual for the material.
Definition: A vug is a cavity in a rock, usually lined with crystals of a different material composition than the enclosing rock.
I worked on a Willow Creek cab that had a vug lined with crystals. Most of the vugs I find are cavities filled with nothing. Vugs when worked on get smaller, bigger or stay the same. This one got smaller but didn't go away. I looked at it closely and there were metal flakes in the vug along with a few pin head size metal flakes the left of the vug.
