Hey guys and gals. A while back I asked Tony catmandewe for a saw and boy did he sure come though! I can't say enough about the amazing way Tony provides epic customer service, previous, during, and after your purchase. Tony actually delivered my new(to me) saw, 400 miles or more out of his way. Here's a few pics. Tony just got the saw, so I had to clean it up a bit before taking pics... After slabbing about 50 lbs of rough and cleaning it up. Was great to meet the Tony.

Glad to see you got a good saw. Know it's a good one if you got it from Tony. I really like that plexiglass hood.

I assume you already have plenty of large rough to feed the thing?

I assume you already have plenty of large rough to feed the thing? I think so. However, I have a sneaky suspicion that my saw has other plans for me

I’ve seen round and square rails for the vise carriage on hp saws, but I’m used to seeing bearings riding on the square rails. I noticed your vice carriage sits on top of the rails with no bearings, do you have an idea of the manufacture date? Late 60's early 70's

I could not decide why you pictured your hand down by the blade, but then realized you are Proudly showing how big the blade is. You must be coming from a frustratingly small or no saw. Congratualtions. Take lots of photos soon - maybe while the saw is running because the plexiglass cover will get grunged. Congratulations on the purchase. Use shims rather than overtightening the vice. I managed to break one half of the vice by honking on the tightener too much.

Use shims rather than overtightening the vice. I managed to break one half of the vice by honking on the tightener too much. Thank you! I started out with a 7" tile saw and got an 8" blade on it, then bought an old 10" GemLap trim saw, then this one. Slabbing by hand isn't my idea of having fun.
This saw was pretty filthy when I got it and I added quite a bit to that. I know what you mean about the Lucite hood, it's been dirty enough I couldn't see through it and had to wipe the gunk off. Here's what the previous owner(s) did to the movable vice jaw and the pin that takes all that force:
Just a little bit of over-tightening going on there. In quite a few of the pictures you can see tool marks on the T handle. I appreciate the advice.

Just to extend the suggestion a bit. I tighten the rock in the vice hand tight, then look for a place or two where a thin hard wood wedge can be tapped in place. Then an attempt to tighten the vice T by hand a bit more. I cracked the movable jaw using a box wrench as a power extender, so I'm more measured in my vice applications. When the plexiglass gets so grunged that you can't see through it at all, its time to clean the saw. Enjoy.

Congratulations EricD - Good saw you got there. I have the same saw circa 1960's and it's awesome in spite of all the constant tinkering I have to do with it. I love the plexi hood - I haven't seen a whole lot of these saws but I've definitely never seen that.

I can't really tell from your picture but it looks like your 'pin' is welded in? Mine is a free-floating pin and I've cranked down on it with a large pipe wrench for leverage and I've never experienced even a slight bend in it.

I love the plexi hood - I haven't seen a whole lot of these saws but I've definitely never seen that. Thanks! That's not a bad price! Just a little bit of over-tightening going on there. Mine is a free-floating pin and I've cranked down on it with a large pipe wrench for leverage and I've never experienced even a slight bend in it. I think mine has a small set screw. I wouldn't be surprised if someone has already replaced the pin with a mild steel pin, it is rather bent for the forces it should normally be seeing. Once I cut an end off to remove it I bet I will know more. I think I might use a roll pin instead so there is almost no chance of bending. I definitely have torque in my veins so I know when something is tight.
