Not even sure why I did other than "Let's try this", but my last batch in the Lot-o I started with 500 SiC instead of 120/220.
Absolutely no discernible difference in end result. Just faster, with one less stage.
I don't recall who but I seem to remember reading a while back, someone talking about about just letting tumbles run, and breaking down the grit serving the same purpose as successive stages.
I think this worked really well because I run rotary grind until there is absolutely no visible grit left when doing a clean out.
Makes some sense - using 46/70 in a 6lb barrel, if they are taken out earlier, stones are noticeably rougher to the touch. Left until grit is fully exhausted leaves them feeling much smoother.
Sort of an "aha!" moment.

SiC 500 is incredibly aggressive for it's grit size. I routinely run it in the lot-o to smooth corners, etc. It's all done in less than 24 hours. 18 or less
