It's been super hot here lately and I found I just didn't want to go hounding through poison ivy and cow briers in 104 degree weather. So I cheated and headed over to the local rock shop to play in their mixed rocks boxes. I actually went over to pick up a base for the geode that I showed you guys a week ago but I can't resist the lure of the boxes  I found more of the blue beach agate, so if anyone wants some let me know. They still have more. The group shot. There were 4 nice agate nodules I found. One looks like a Malawi and 2 Botswanas(?) and a Laguna.    Not sure what this one is. It feels like quartzite but it's filled with green moss and red swirls.  Some other nice stones I haven't identified yet.   A handful of slabs I thought were cool.  |

Nice bunch! You are lucky to have a local rockshop. We used to have three; now we have none.

I agree Pat. I'm glad we have it. It also does jewelry and beading supply which does a brisk business for them. Probably more than the rocks.

I love little rock shops in out of the way places. Sadly the closest one around here went out of business three years ago, however I bought most of their inventory and sell some. I don't have a brick and morter store front but I supply some of the locals through word of mouth.
A pal opened up a rock shop a couple years ago in a remote tourist town and I was able to provide some inventory to help get it on its feet. Sure hope it does OK for a long time yet.

Good score and the shopping trip probably helped with cabin fever awaiting better weather. I tried to go out a couple of weeks ago and came home with multiple ticks and their bites still haven't completely healed and last week we almost melted from the heat. Before anybody says anything about the tick lime risk, I did get the antibiotic prescription. My dog gets a 3 month pill which kills any that bite her and I would take the same if allowed. Now, back to your rocks....I love the unknown blue one. I bet it will really be nice when cut.

That's a nice selection stardiamond ! I'm a big fan of Jasper's Is the green serpentine? I've never actually seen any in person, so I'm sketchy on what it really looks like. greig that's a bummer about the tick bites. Chigger bites are what always get me here in the summer. Even in my own backyard. The horror! I know I should spray for them, but I'm a hippie and I don't want to kill all the neat insects, lizards and bunnies that live in my yard. I agree about the whitish teal stone. I'm curious what it will look like polished. It has a somewhat rough texture like quartzite does. RWA3006 I hope your friend's store does well! That's a shame your local store closed. it's fun to wander around in them and chat with people and look at all the neat specimens. Did your stock include any Washington or Oregon rocks? I've been watching the CurrentlyRockhounding channel and I've become enchanted with pacific northwestern rocks lately. It's such a beautiful area of the country. I traveled to Spokane about 10 years ago and it was a cool place. |

RWA3006 Did your stock include any Washington or Oregon rocks? Unfortunately there was little from Washington and Oregon. I've had the good fortune to trade some rough with several guys from there though ... all members of this forum. Good folks. |

Most of my agates still come from online and our local rock store. The internet is a great way to get material you like that's not in your area. Materials, debt, Russian brides.....is there anything the internet can't do? . Sometimes I wish material was just a liiiiiittle harder to find.... |
