Hot glue on the end of a stick to retrieve your stone. Even two part epoxy would do it. Interesting rocks, I have some similar but have never attempted to polish them, just beach stones that looked nice. Who can resist picking up beach stones?

I didn't even think of gluing it to a stick. Great idea pauls! I know what you mean about beach stones. Shells and fossils too. The place I find this basalt, has these weird crystal formations too. Sort of like little sponges filled with sugar. I'll get a picture uploaded of one in a bit.

Cool stuff! I think the couple I found are considered the same term? Redish one was rough tumbled, still have to do something to the others.

It looks remarkably similar to the pieces I find. I like the green flecks that your rocks have. One peculiar thing I noticed about them, is that they make an odd clinking sound when you tap them together. Here's a picture of the little crystal sponges. I think they're made of calcite although the crystal structure isn't correct. They're very soft like calcite. Maybe they are some kind of slag. I find metallic slag in the same area.
