sharing a few cabs I've been working on the last few days. a cpl are sanded and ready for lot o, others still have some touch up to be done.
first, il start with this one of unknown material. looks to be some variation of crazy lace or similar. the botryoidal druzy pocket looks better in person. it goes all the way they the cab so can run a cord through it for easy necklace.
next one is also unknown material with large druzy pocket. really wasnt anything interesting to it other than the druzy so that's what I cut.
next is Moroccan agate. still have a cpl lbs left of the rock but it's getting harder and harder to cut something unique.
next is Millifiore glass. got several slabs of different colors for cheap. fun stuff to work and daughter loves them. she has already requested pendants in each color lol.
next up is more unknown material. as I was shaping it a deep pit opened up in the brown area on upper left side.
so I decided to flip it over and shape the other side of the cab. dont care for the druzy both sides leave something to be desired...
Next, we have Zimbabwean Verdite - I'm in love with this stuff. it is super soft, like 2-3 hardness, but not crumbly. shapes up easily and love the colors. However, I dont know if it can be polished to a good shine or not. definitely too soft for lot o so will have to experiment with polishing it with dremel. if anyone has experience with this material it love to know how to go about getting a shine on it, if possible to do.
these last two are also unknown material and my favorite of the group, even tho theres some small internal fractures visible. mainly because i really didnt expect anything from the rock they were cut from. the outside was bland and very weathered. managed to get two small slices from it. Here are the small slices..
and the first cab I made from the slice on the left
I loved how that one turned out so tried to make the same from the other slice but didnt turn out as I'd hoped...
so I flipped it over and shaped the backside of the cab. I think it's definitely more interesting than other side.
that's all for now. I welcome and appreciate any comments, feedback, tips and suggestions. and, of course, thanks for looking!
