so I obviously couldnt wait long to start playing around on my newly acquired cab machine. this is material from drocknut that I received recently. not sure of the material but I'd guess its coprolite. after numerous attempts to use dop wax I assumed there was more to it than heating wax and sticking it on a stone . so I grabbed a bolt and some super glue and started grinding away. this took around 3 hours or so but I feel like I was getting the hang of it towards the end. didnt spend very long on last 3 wheels. was surprised how much trouble I had with an even girdle. much easier with dremel it seems. but overall I'm happy with the results for my first one. I forgot to bevel the bottom of cab so will have to do that tomorrow. anyways here it is...lemme known what you think !

I think it looks great! The girdle looks good, the line form the tip of the stone to the back (the dome) is nice and even- what's not to like? You did great and you had some fabulous tunes to listen to while you worked.

thank you for the kind words Tela! i glad you like the music too!
Very nice! I've never tried dop wax, I use super glue and a 3/8" dowel. Worked so well the first time I never tried anything else. I bet you'll have that 3 hours shaved down to 1 or less in no time flat!
Well that didn't take long, great job! I'm thinking that all of the time you spent with the dremel helped- do you think that's the case?
thank you, sir! ya know, at first I didnt think it would transfer over when on the wheels and maybe make it more difficult since so used to looking at face of cab when working the stone but was easier adjustment than thought would be

thank you MsAli, NDK and hummingbirdstones! thought my addiction to dremeling cabs was bad but can see pulling me away from the wheels is going to be much harder!

I've never used a dremel to make cabs. I imagine the bit is pushed into the stone. A cabbing machine, the stone is pushed into the wheel. If I had to use a dremel, I would be more selective with what I worked on. How a cab will turn out happens very quickly with a cabbing machine.
That looks great. It's not poop, it's dendritic opal or what some call opalite. I think that came from the McDermitt, NV area where I collected it several years ago.
I think it's awesome you've been able to transfer from dremel to cab machine! I can't imagine the time spent with the dremel didn't have anything but a positive effect on your "next step" in this adventure!

thanks Eric! I'm getting closer to an hour now. just have to remember to not rush and move to next wheel until its ready to.

rocknrob: That was one heck of a windstorm that thankfully missed me. I guess Seatac almost hit 60mph gusts. I bet those were some fun landings
