I've been selling one Etsy for about 14 months and have had one return. I'm not sure if it was buyers' remorse or my fault because the picture indicated a higher dome. I've added more pictures to my listings with different set ups and lighting conditions. I quickly resold the cab without any issue after it was relisted with more pictures.
Today a customer who ordered multiple cabs emailed me and wanted to return all but one. No complaints about workmanship but said the cabs were darker than the pictures. When they are returned I will compare them with the pictures to see if I could do a better job with the pictures. From memory, I believe the pictures were accurate and that she spent more money than she wanted to. Selling will always lead to some customer issues and I have been fortunate having few.

I'm curious .. Do you have a statement that says rocks may appear lighter/darker in person? Or something to that affect?

No. I try to take pictures in different light. I've been a buyer a lot longer than a seller and a disclaimer by the seller isn't reassuring to me. Over the years, I've bought material that was too dark to use because the pictures were over lit.
I recently had some Blue Mountain material that was too dark but had some nice patterns. I went ahead and made cabs. I took a picture in bright sun to show the pattern and another indoors with natural light which didn't show the pattern as well but a more accurate overall appearance. In the description I stated in the description that the material was dark and the overall appearance was closest to the indoor picture. I would rather disclose and let the customer decide than not list. The approach has worked out well.

Customer left a rave review yesterday on the one cab she was going to keep. Today, she sent an email saying she is returning everything. I think my analysis of the situation was correct and my BS detector works fine.
I expect that she won't order again and I'll have to think long and hard if she does.

I've purchased things I realized I didn't want the next day, but in such a case, I was the one who screwed up and I don't return them just because I bought something I shouldn't have.

I'm the same way. I only return when the seller has some responsibility for the return. I think jewelry is personal and different than other purchases. I only bought jewelry once. We were on vacation and my wife asked me to pick up some things for her at a department store. While I was there, I saw that they had a good sale on watches, so I bought one for my wife. She said thank you and exchanged it for one she liked.

As one who has sold, I am always very fair to an honest seller. I won't return something just because I changed my mind, but if it seems deliberately misrepresented I will.
