So, They are widening the creek up the street from me,in San Martin Ca. MY buddy calls the other night and says"lets go look for duds in the creek" (duds=rocks) They are expecting a flood sometime in the next 50 yrs ,so they have a bunch of excavators widening out the channel(llagas creek) which just so happens to be right below the old Poppy Jasper mine The mine has been concreted over,so no one will be getting in there for a long, long, long, time. The material i found has been buried for more than 50 years,at least,if not longer. i almost didn't go,but am very glad i did. IMG_4955 by paul forsythe, on Flickr

In Aus a "dud" is something that doesn't work or is no good, so for example a firecracker that doesn't go bang is a dud. From where I'm looking they sure aren't "duds", plenty of bang for your buck there.

I believe the reference here was having low expectations about what was likely to be found. Paul said a lot of creek found material was not lapidary grade.

You are correct. 99% of my creek finds turn out to be Duds. Although duds in the cabbing sense? It Does not mean they are duds in the Slab/ display sense, As i progress in my rockaholic Disease,i am finding beauty in even The most dirty of dingy Rocks

The slabs are not classic Morgan Hill, however they would be attractive to Morgan Hill slab collectors because they are not dark, colorful and atypical. I'm also sure that you will find great cabs in those slabs because you are excellent in finding them. When I first started out making cabs, my wife would do the designs for me. Looking at crazy lace/Laguna slabs would make my wife queasy because the was so much going on.

The vein of Jasper where these Slabs came from was formed over 200 million Years ago. Suddenly? I am young again😊
