Hello! I'm new to collecting and identifying rocks and crystals. I have some raw specimens and some tumbles that I'm having trouble identifying. Any help would be welcome! Some of my ideas are: 5-sunstone? 6-green calcite? 8-fuchsite? 10-It was suggested that this was mostly calcite with lapis, but I was thinking it looked more like sodalite? 14-rhodochrosite? 20-more fuchsite? 22-apricot agate? 26-amazonite? 29-tiger's eye? I can add more clarifying pics if needed.

With small tumbled rocks you can't be sure and most of it will be unidentificated until you use spectrometer, or some chemistry (chemistry can destroy it), but it isn't profitable for such small rocks. Here's my suggestion: 6 - fluorite? 8 - fuchsite? 20 - aventurine? 22 - agate/chalcedony 26 - sodalite 27 - feldspar? 29 - chert

its true that tumbled rocks are harder to identify than those fresh from the field. That said it would be easier to view your specimens if they were photographed against a grey or light green background. At present the white background is giving to much light to your camera and the setting is shutting down making the specimen dark and hard to see detailed color. I recommend the old hardness, streak, and yes color characteristics for preliminary identification. Many types share similar colors or range across many colors and so visual only consideration is a bit of gamble. And like gambling such identifications can go south. Keep after it and you will gain confidence in your own first hand ids.
