My grandson is going to Kuwait for 9 months and ask me if I would like to have him send back some rocks for me to play with. I told him it would cost an arm and a leg to ship home a box of rocks from there. He told me they could send home medium size flat raters with no limit ! As long as there is no cost to him I need to know what kind of agates if any do they have over there ? I worried about him going there but he will be on an Air base just inside the border with Saudi Aribia and won't be near the airport there. Job sounds fairly safe as he will be (teaching) hazardous material handling, finger nail polish spilled in the womans barracks to roadside IED's If no agates in the area, what other kind of goodies might they have there ? Thanks for any info anyone might have !

You're asking a question that (probably) no one here can answer, unless they have been in that area.
Without any specific knowledge of the region, I'm guessing it's all a crap shoot. If your grandson has no limits on what he can send, just have him send them. Give him a quick primer on the Mohs scale and what you're hoping to find.

I am unfamiliar with Kuwait, but my nephew was in Afghanistan. He sent small flat rate and medium rate boxes at the same rate as domestic. I, of course, asked for Lapis Lazuli. He sent several chunks. The catch was that they weren't allowed to send any unfinished stones. So my multi-pound chunks are polished. I do not know if that requirement was specific to Afghanistan or to what the military would handle in shipping.
I hope he is able to find really cool stuff to send to you!!

If you’re into fossils of the dino variety, he could probably pick ya up a nice bone saw.

I'd be a terrible soldier in the mid-east. My pockets would always be stuffed with rocks. I understand Kuwait is safe and anybody I know from there is super friendly. I tried to look up collecting locations for Kuwait agate and struck out. However, I did find a link to where to buy minerals: www.mindat.org/dircnt_Kuwait.html

Kuwait has money, and where there is money there are gem dealers. Between the open market and the base xchange, there may be room for buying some good material. No far from Morocco, Turkey, Iran, Iraq etc. that thing considered easily accessible there would highly desirable here. Shop and stay flexible about leads.

Tangier is closer to New York City than Kuwait city. Solid advice kind sir!

If I'm not mistaken most of the rock in the area around there long turned into sand. Lol Not far from Turkey though, and I have seen some nice stuff coming out of there. North of Turkey even more so. I wish your grandson much luck. Glad to have him on our side.

So basically it's pretty much sand, and compacted sand
